Un-Standardizing Curriculum cont.

Hello all!

Our 2 week face-to-face time is quickly coming to an end. However, our revolution does not end here!

Today, we continued our discussion on Chapters 3, 4 and 7 in Un-Standardizing Curriculum: Multicultural Teaching in the Standards-Based Classroom by Christine E. Sleeter.

The following are key concepts from our discussions.

Chapter 3 visual: forming multicultural curriculum like pottery.

Chapter 4: Shannon and Kathy presenting.

Chapter 4: Instead of using a magnifying glass on our children through standardized testing, content standards, etc. we need to use a mirror on ourselves as teachers, the children utilize the mirror to identify their culture, community, family, etc.

Chapter 7: Annabelle presenting key concepts- developmental perspective, academic content perspective, multicultural curriculum, high expectations from teachers of their students, high expectations from the teacher to the students and bringing it all together to be an intentional teacher.
